What to expect

At your initial appointment, you will undergo a thorough assessment of your pain and symptoms. A customised treatment plan will then be provided to help manage your condition and optimise your recovery. We can also assist you in implementing strategies in your daily life, enabling you to continue working, playing, or competing in your chosen activities.

A hand therapist is a registered occupational therapist or physiotherapist who manages patients with conditions affecting the hands, wrists, and upper limbs. They provide assessment, treatment, and education to support recovery, improve function, and help patients participate in daily activities, work, or sport.

Our hand therapists work alongside our in-house surgeon, Dr Jonathon de Hoog, to plan and implement acute fracture management and post-operative care. Hand therapy involves additional training and clinical experience beyond general occupational therapy or physiotherapy, and our therapists participate in ongoing professional development to enhance their skills.

Hand therapists can assess and identify conditions affecting the upper limbs and provide evidence-based advice and treatment, which may include exercises, preventative strategies, aids to daily living, and ergonomic recommendations. They also collaborate with referring GPs and other allied health professionals to plan interventions and facilitate timely, effective rehabilitation.

In providing treatment, our team strives to remain consistent with our core values, delivering care with a patient-centred focus and professionalism.
